Today there are 439 commercial nuclear power reactors operating in 30 countries, producing 372,000 MWe of electricity. These commercial nuclear power plants account for over 12,600 rector years of experience and supply 16% of the world's electricity.
Although few nuclear power plants have been built, those operating are producing more electricity. Over the last five years, plant production has increased by 210 TWh. That's equal to the output from 30 large new nuclear plants. In the US, nuclear plant performance has steadily improved over the past 15 years. The average load factor now stands at around 90%, an increase of 25%. The US leads with 18 of the top 25 reactors in the world.
Curtiss-Wright Flow Control companies have played a significant part in supporting plant maintenance, upgrades, uprates, system modifications and the installation of advanced technology components. They continue to work with system engineers and operating personal to provide innovative solution to support the utilities goal to provide safe, clean, efficient, and reliable power at a low cost to consumers.

Electro-Mechanical
Division began its' association with nuclear power in the 1952 with they development of critical function pumps for the propulsion (power) system install on the USS Nautilus (the U.S. Navy's first nuclear power submarine). In 1957 when President Eisenhower gave his famous speech "Atoms for Peace" to the United Nations and launched the era of nuclear power EMD was well positioned to play a significant role in the design of the first Westinghouse large-scale nuclear power plant at Shippingport, PA. Today they continue to supply critical equipment to operating reactors as well as provide repair, refurbish, remanufacturing, engineering and testing services to the nuclear power industry.
